The Route

The route is approximately 12km, and is totally off road. There are a few small hills and under foot conditions vary from trail, footpath, forestry track, sandy beach and rocky footpath. It is a challenging but enjoyable route full of variety and great views!

The route starts near Shiskine Golf course (Blackwaterfoot), crosses the Golf course and goes on the inland side of ‘The Doon’ before dropping down to the coast. The course then turns away from the coast, running up and around King’s Cave Forestry Commission plantation. On returning to the coast, the route then follows the coastline around Drumadoon Point finishing along Blackwaterfoot beach.

The course will be marked in kilometres. There will be a water station at the King’s Cave carpark, approximately half way round the route and water will be available from marshals at two other points (approx 3km and 9km).

** Please note – due to the nature of the course this trail run is not reccommended for beginner trail runners **

You can also find pictures, elevations and descriptions of the route here at Walk Highlands, where our trail run route takes in both the King’s Cave circuit and Drumadoon Point.
